November 4, 2013The Literacy and Numeracy Framework
Dear Parent,
I am sure that many of you have heard of ‘The Literacy and Numeracy Framework,’ an initiative developed by the Welsh Assembly to promote Literacy and Numeracy skills in our pupils. This became statutory at the beginning of Autumn Term 2013 and is being used nationwide to raise standards.
At a school level, we work at developing pupil skills during language and mathematics sessions. The skills learnt in these lessons are transmitted throughout all other activities as literacy and numeracy skills.
At the beginning of this process, it is important that we share the information with you in the hope that you may support you child with the skills that are relevant to him/her. Attached you will find framework for numeracy (1) and literacy (3) – literacy being split into 3 elements – oracy, reading and writing. These frameworks cover pupils from our Reception Year through to Year 9 in Comprehensive school.
*Open relevant attachment
*Find your child’s year group
*Read down that particular column to view year group skills
- Ø Please be aware that some pupils may be working above or below their particular year group for various reasons.
- Ø Pupils will be using these skills in Welsh within the Foundation Phase (up to year 2) and then in both languages from year 3 on.
Within the written report your child will receive at the end of this academic year, there will be comments made about Numeracy and Literacy progress. However at the end of the following academic year(2014/15), levels of achievements will be reported on.
Should you require any further information, please contact your class teacher.
